Saturday Morning Gravel Ride

  • Zach's Bikes 831 Main Street Klamath Falls, OR, 97601 United States (map)

We will be doing a group ride out Old Fort road to Hagelstien. This is the shop's favorite route for it's views, the fast and fun nature of the gravel sections and the challenging but rewarding difficulty.

This is a mixed road and gravel road ride suitable for gravel bikes and road bikes alike. The gravel sections are typically improved enough to make them very manage-able on a road bike. We do typically recommend a bigger tire (28-32) but slick road style tires are perfectly fine (we've done this ride on 23's and they're fine).

Expect around 3000 feet of climbing and about 35 miles. It takes typically a little over two and a half hours. If we encounter snow in the earlier months we will simply turn around (the route is an out-and-back). Also if you don't want to do the last climb or you can't keep up feel free to flip around and rejoin the group when it comes back the opposite direction.

The pace will be moderately high(I'm not going to assign an average speed due to the steepness of the hills). There is a regroup at the top of each hill. We consider this between an intermediate and hard ride when it comes to difficulty.

Lilly will be leading an intermediate paced ride on this day. If you want to start out with the fast group then fall back to the intermediate group that's a great way to push yourself. Please email (lillian.zbikes@gmail.com) her if you plan on attending this pace as she may do her own ride if attendance wanes.

Please bring water (there are no opportunities for refill out there), flat kits and lights (remember: a helmet might reduce your chance of injury, but a rear blinky light will prevent a crash all-together).
